Control your Govee smart lights, LED strips, and appliances from n8n using the current Govee Platform API v2.

n8n is a fair-code licensed workflow automation platform.

Why v2?

This node is built on the Govee Platform API v2 (openapi.api.govee.com), the API Govee issues keys for today. Unlike integrations based on the deprecated v1 API, it supports the full capability model:

  • πŸ’‘ Power, brightness, color, and color temperature
  • 🎨 Segment control: color and brightness per light segment
  • 🌈 Dynamic light scenes and your own DIY scenes, with dropdown pickers
  • 🎡 Music-reactive mode with sensitivity and color options
  • πŸŒ€ Appliance support: work modes, toggles, and target temperature for fans, humidifiers, heaters, purifiers, and kettles
  • πŸ”§ A Custom Control escape hatch for any capability the API exposes
  • ⚑ Trigger node: react to devices going online/offline, power changes, any state change, or sensor thresholds (temperature, humidity, CO2)
  • 🎯 Control multiple devices at once from a single node
  • πŸ€– Usable as a tool by n8n AI agents

Installation

Community Nodes (Recommended)

  1. Open your n8n instance
  2. Go to Settings > Community Nodes
  3. Select Install a community node
  4. Enter n8n-nodes-govee-pro
  5. Agree to the risks and select Install

Manual Installation

npm install n8n-nodes-govee-pro

Credentials

  1. Open the Govee Home app on your phone
  2. Go to your profile Settings and tap Apply for API Key
  3. Submit the form; the key arrives by email within minutes
  4. In n8n, create a Govee API credential and paste the key

Note: generating a new API key invalidates all previous keys on your Govee account.

Operations

Device

Operation Description
Get Many List all devices on your account with their capabilities
Get State Query the live state of a device (power, brightness, color, sensors, online status)
Set Power Turn a device on or off
Set Brightness Set brightness (1-100)
Set Color Set RGB color with a color picker
Set Color Temperature Set white temperature in Kelvin
Set Segment Color Color specific segments of a strip or panel
Set Segment Brightness Dim specific segments
Set Toggle Switch capabilities like nightlight, oscillation, or gradient
Set Mode Set mode capabilities like fan speed or preset scene
Set Work Mode Set appliance working modes (e.g. humidifier gears)
Set Music Mode Music-reactive lighting with sensitivity and color
Set Target Temperature Target temperature for heaters, kettles, thermostats
Custom Control Send any raw capability (type + instance + value)

All control operations accept multiple devices, and the device dropdown only lists devices that support the selected operation.

Scene

Operation Description
Get Many List dynamic light scenes or your DIY scenes for a device
Activate Apply a light scene, DIY scene, or snapshot

Govee Trigger (polling)

Event Description
Device Went Offline The device lost its Wi-Fi connection
Device Went Online The device reconnected
Power State Changed The device was turned on or off (from any source, including the app)
State Changed Any capability state changed
Sensor Threshold Crossed Temperature, humidity, or CO2 crossed a value you define

The trigger polls the Govee cloud on the schedule you pick in n8n's polling settings. Sensor values are in the units reported by the Govee API (temperature is in Fahrenheit).

Devices and scenes are selectable from dropdowns; no need to copy MAC addresses by hand. When using expressions, pass devices as "deviceId|sku" (e.g. "9D:FA:85:EB:D3:00:8B:FF|H6601").

Quick Start Examples

Example 1: Sunset lighting routine

  1. Schedule Trigger at 19:30
  2. Govee > Device > Set Power (On) for your living room strip
  3. Govee > Device > Set Color Temperature (2700 K)
  4. Govee > Device > Set Brightness (40)

Example 2: Alert light on failed workflow

  1. Error Trigger
  2. Govee > Device > Set Color (#ff0000) on a desk lamp
  3. Wait 10 seconds
  4. Govee > Scene > Activate your usual scene

Example 3: Temperature-driven fan

  1. Schedule Trigger every 15 minutes
  2. Govee > Device > Get State on a thermometer (read sensorTemperature)
  3. IF temperature > 28
  4. Govee > Device > Set Work Mode on the fan

Compatibility

  • Requires n8n version 1.0 or newer
  • Node.js 20.15 or newer
  • Govee Platform API v2 (https://openapi.api.govee.com)

API rate limits (enforced by Govee)

  • Device list: 30 requests/minute per account
  • Control: 12 requests/second per account, 2 requests/second per device
  • State and scene queries: 30 requests/minute per device

Known limitations

  • Device events (water level, presence sensors) are only published by Govee over MQTT and are not exposed by this node
  • When a device is offline, the Govee cloud returns the last cached state
  • Bluetooth-only devices are not reachable through the cloud API

Development

npm install
npm run build # compile TypeScript and bundle icons
npm run lint # eslint with the n8n community node rulesets
npm run smoke # live smoke test (requires GOVEE_API_KEY env var)
