LayerProof for local n8n
@layerproof/n8n-nodes-layerproof lets you use LayerProof public API workflows inside your local n8n instance.
You can use it to automate:
- projects
- workspaces
- themes
- files
- project files
- slide decks
- slides
- exports
- async jobs
What you need before setup
Before you install the node, make sure you have:
- a local or self-hosted n8n instance
- permission to install community nodes
- a valid LayerProof API key
- the correct Base URL for the LayerProof API
Please note:
- this guide is for local n8n / self-hosted n8n
- for LayerProof, the Base URL must be the API origin only
- do not include
/apior/api/v2in the Base URL
Example:
- correct:
https://api.dev.layerproof.app - incorrect:
https://api.dev.layerproof.app/api/v2
How to install the LayerProof node in local n8n
- Open your local n8n
- Go to Settings
- Open Community Nodes
- Click Install
- Enter the package name:
@layerproof/n8n-nodes-layerproof
- Confirm the installation
- Wait for n8n to finish installing the package
- Reload the editor if needed
After installation, you should be able to find the LayerProof node in the node picker.
How to create LayerProof credentials in n8n
- Add the LayerProof node to a workflow
- In the node, create a new credential for LayerProof API
- Enter:
- API Key: your LayerProof API key
- Base URL: your LayerProof API origin
- Save the credential
- Use Test if your n8n version shows a credential test button
Expected values:
- API Key should look similar to
sk_live_... - Base URL should look similar to
https://api.dev.layerproof.app
How to test the node after setup
The simplest first test is to list projects.
- Create a new workflow
- Add the LayerProof node
- Select your LayerProof API credential
- Choose:
- Resource:
Project - Operation:
List
- Resource:
- Optionally set:
- Limit:
1
- Limit:
- Click Execute Node
If everything is configured correctly, the node should return a JSON response with:
datanext_cursorhas_more
Example first workflow
Recommended first workflow:
- Add Manual Trigger
- Add LayerProof
- Choose:
- Resource:
Project - Operation:
List
- Resource:
- Execute the workflow
This is a good first test because it is:
- read-only
- simple
- easy to verify
Available resources in the LayerProof node
The node supports these main resources:
ProjectWorkspaceThemeFileProject FileSlide DeckSlideExportJob
Common mistakes
- entering the wrong Base URL
- adding
/apior/api/v2into Base URL - using an invalid or expired API Key
- trying to use the node before the package installation is complete
- not reloading n8n after installation if the node picker does not refresh
- expecting the package to work on n8n Cloud before n8n verification
Troubleshooting
The node does not appear in n8n
Check that:
- the package installation finished successfully
- community nodes are allowed in your local n8n instance
- you reloaded the editor or restarted n8n
The credential test fails
Check that:
- the API key is valid
- the Base URL is correct
- the Base URL does not include
/apior/api/v2
The API returns 403
This usually means:
- the API key is valid
- but the account does not have the required LayerProof public API access
The API returns HTML instead of JSON
This usually means your Base URL points to the web app instead of the API origin.
Use:
https://api.dev.layerproof.app
Do not use:
- a frontend app URL
- a dashboard URL
Recommended setup
- start with a simple read-only operation such as Project → List
- keep the Base URL as the API origin only
- save the credential first before building larger workflows
- test one resource at a time
Summary
To use LayerProof in local n8n:
- Install
@layerproof/n8n-nodes-layerprooffrom Community Nodes - Add the LayerProof node
- Create LayerProof API credentials
- Enter your API Key
- Enter your Base URL
- Test with Project → List
Once that works, you can continue building LayerProof workflows in your local n8n instance.
