n8n-nodes-nudgehost

This is an n8n community node for NudgeHost. It uploads a file from your workflow to NudgeHost and returns its public link, lists the files on your account, and deletes a file.

NudgeHost is a file-hosting service for people and AI agents. Anyone who has a link can open it without signing in.

n8n is a fair-code licensed workflow automation platform.

Installation

Follow the installation guide in the n8n community nodes documentation, and enter n8n-nodes-nudgehost as the package name.

Operations

The node has one resource, File, with four operations.

  • Publish Text publishes text you type or map into the node as a file, and returns the finished file with its link in url. Set File Name with an extension. A name ending in .html or .htm opens as a web page, .md or .markdown as formatted text, and .csv or .json in NudgeHost's table or JSON viewer. Any other name, such as .txt, gets a download page. Link Name under Options works as it does for Upload.
  • Upload sends the file in a binary field of the input item to NudgeHost and returns the finished file, with its link in url. The file keeps the name it has in n8n unless you set File Name under Options. Link Name asks for a particular name in the link's address. If that name is taken or not allowed, NudgeHost picks a random one, so read the link from the output. A ZIP holding an index file becomes a hosted site at its own address, and url is that address.
  • Get Many lists the files on your account, newest first. Turn on Return All to fetch every page, or set Limit. Simplify is on by default and keeps ten fields per file: id, url, filename, kind, fileSize, mimeType, createdAt, viewCount, slug and hasPassword. Turn it off for every field the API returns. Include Deleted under Options adds deleted files, which come back with isDeleted set to true.
  • Delete takes a file's ID, from Upload or Get Many, and deletes the file, so its link stops working. The link name stays reserved and is never given to anyone else. Deleting the same file a second time returns a not found error.

Credentials

The node uses a NudgeHost API credential, which holds an API key. Uploading on the NudgeHost website needs no account, but the API acts on an account, so you need one to get a key.

  1. Sign up at nudgehost.com.
  2. Open the API keys panel of your dashboard and create a key. It is shown once, so copy it before you close the panel. Keys start with nh_sk_.
  3. In n8n, create a NudgeHost API credential and paste the key into API Key.

The node sends the key as a bearer token (Authorization: Bearer nh_sk_...) to https://www.nudgehost.com. When you save the credential, n8n tests it by listing one file. Every request counts towards that key's rate limit, which the REST API and NudgeHost's MCP server share.

Compatibility

Built with the @n8n/node-cli tooling and tested on n8n 2.45.4.

Usage

Upload works on binary data. Put a node before it that outputs a file in a binary field, such as Read/Write Files from Disk, HTTP Request with the response format set to File, or a trigger that receives attachments. Then set Input Binary Field to that field's name, which is data for most nodes.

The upload happens in two steps behind one operation. The node asks NudgeHost for a signed upload address, sends the bytes there with no API key, then confirms the upload and outputs the finished file.

NudgeHost decides how to show a file from its name and its first bytes. Text or a file that starts with < is shown as a web page whatever its name, unless it is an SVG image.

The node has no operation to change a file in place, because NudgeHost's API can't replace a file at the same link yet. To publish a new version, upload it as a new file. You can also delete the old one, but its link name stays reserved, so the new file gets a different link.

Get Many and Delete are available to AI agents as tools. Upload is not useful as a tool, because a tool call carries no binary data.

Example workflow

This workflow makes a small text file, uploads it, then lists your five newest files. Copy it and paste it onto the n8n canvas, then choose your NudgeHost API credential on both NudgeHost nodes.

Upload outputs one item with the file's id, url, kind, filename, mimeType, fileSize and createdAt. Get Many outputs one item per file.
