PromptDocker n8n Node

This is an n8n community node that allows you to interact with the PromptDocker API. It provides functionality to list, retrieve, and use prompt templates with variable substitution.

Installation

Follow the installation guide in the n8n community nodes documentation.

Operations

List Prompts

Retrieves a list of all available prompts from your PromptDocker account.

Get Prompt

Retrieves a specific prompt by its ID.

Parameters:

  • Prompt ID: The unique identifier of the prompt to retrieve

Use Prompt (Critical Feature)

Uses a prompt template with variable substitution. This is the core functionality that allows you to:

  • Select a prompt by ID
  • Replace template variables (e.g., {{introduction}}, {{name}}) with actual values
  • Get the processed prompt ready for use

Parameters:

  • Prompt ID: The unique identifier of the prompt to use
  • Variables: Add individual variable name-value pairs
  • Variables (JSON): Provide variables as a JSON object (e.g., {"introduction": "Hello", "name": "John"})

Example Variables:
If your prompt template contains {{introduction}} {{name}}, welcome to {{company}}!, you can provide:

  • Individual variables: introduction = "Hello", name = "John", company = "PromptDocker"
  • JSON format: {"introduction": "Hello", "name": "John", "company": "PromptDocker"}

Output:
The Use Prompt operation returns:

  • id: The prompt ID
  • name: The prompt name
  • original_template: The original template with variables
  • processed_prompt: The final prompt with variables replaced
  • variables_used: The variables that were applied
  • remaining_variables: Any variables that weren't replaced

Credentials

You need to set up PromptDocker API credentials:

  • API Key: Your PromptDocker API key
  • Base URL: The API base URL (defaults to https://api.promptdocker.com)

Use Cases

  1. Dynamic Content Generation: Use prompts with different variables for personalized content
  2. Template Management: Centrally manage prompt templates in PromptDocker
  3. Workflow Integration: Seamlessly integrate prompt processing into n8n workflows
  4. A/B Testing: Use different variable combinations with the same template

Example Workflow

  1. List Prompts → Get available prompt IDs
  2. Get Prompt → Inspect a specific prompt template
  3. Use Prompt → Process the template with your variables
