Universal Media Downloader
AI-generatedSummary
Detects a supported media reference in each input item, downloads the file, and adds it as binary data under the configured property name. Auto Detect checks WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, Instagram, then direct URL shapes.
Inputs
- Source Type — Select Auto Detect (default) or a specific source. The node scans nested item data for supported WhatsApp media IDs, Telegram file IDs, Messenger or Instagram attachment URLs, or direct URL fields such as
url,media_url, anddownload_url. Direct URL detection also accepts other HTTP(S) fields whose URL has a recognized media extension. - Binary Property Name (required) — Name of the output binary property; defaults to
data. - Continue If No Media — Defaults to true. When no supported reference is found, returns the item with
hasMedia: false; if disabled, the node errors unless n8n's Continue On Fail is enabled. - Continue On Download Error — Defaults to false. When enabled, a download failure returns the item with
hasMedia: trueand adownloadErrormessage instead of failing; n8n's Continue On Fail also enables this behavior.
Output shape
One output item per input item, with the original JSON and binary data preserved where applicable.
Successful downloads add the file under the configured binary property and add
hasMedia: true, mediaType, mimeType, fileName, fileSize, sourceType, andsourceFieldto JSON. No-match items gethasMedia: false. Text MIME type downloads are skipped and returned withhasMedia: falseand askippedReason. WhatsApp downloads require a Meta access token; Telegram downloads require a Telegram bot token. Messenger and Instagram can use an optional Meta access token. Direct URLs are fetched without credentials.
