What it does

Give the node one or more websites and it returns one item per detected technology: name, category memberships, a traffic-rank signal, an icon URL, and when it was confirmed. It detects frameworks, CMSs, CDNs, analytics tools, e-commerce platforms, web servers, and other web technologies. It also works as an AI Agent tool, so an agent can answer questions like "what CMS does example.com use?" on demand. Good for lead generation, competitive analysis, market research, and security/compliance inventories.

  • Analyze one website or a whole list at once, one row per detected technology
  • Full URLs or bare domains accepted (missing scheme defaults to https://)
  • Choose how much data to return per result: Simplified, Raw, or Selected Fields

Installation

Follow the n8n community nodes installation guide:

  1. In n8n, open Settings > Community Nodes.
  2. Select Install.
  3. Enter n8n-nodes-wappalyzer-lookup as the npm package name.
  4. Agree to the risks of using community nodes, then select Install.

After it installs, the Wappalyzer Tech Lookup node appears in the nodes panel.

n8n Cloud only allows verified community nodes. Until this node is verified, install it on a self-hosted n8n instance.

Credentials

You need a free Apify account and an API token.

  1. Sign in to the Apify Console.
  2. Open Settings > Integrations and copy your Personal API token.
  3. In n8n, create a new Apify API credential and paste the token.
  4. Use the credential's Test button to confirm it works.

The node also supports Apify OAuth2 if you prefer to connect that way.

Operations

Website > Detect Technologies returns detected technologies for one or more websites.

Parameter Description
URLs / Domains One website per line or comma-separated. Full URLs or bare domains (missing scheme defaults to https://).
Output How much data to return: Simplified, Raw, or Selected Fields.

Output

Each detected technology is returned as its own n8n item. The Output parameter lets you choose how much to return:

  • Simplified (default): domain, technologyName, categories, trafficRank. This mode is also used automatically when the node runs as an AI Agent tool, to keep responses small.
  • Raw: every field the API returns for each row, using the original field names below.
  • Selected Fields: pick exactly which fields to include.

Fields (Raw and Selected Fields)

Field Type Description
domain string The website's domain
technologyName string Detected technology name, for example Shopify
categories string Category memberships, for example Ecommerce
trafficRank number Traffic-rank signal for the domain
iconUrl string Icon URL for the detected technology
confirmedAt number Timestamp when the detection was last confirmed

Example workflows

1. Audit competitor tech stacks weekly

  1. Schedule Trigger (weekly).
  2. Wappalyzer Tech Lookup: URLs / Domains set to a list of competitor domains.
  3. Google Sheets: append domain, technologyName, categories for tracking over time.

2. Enrich a leads CRM list

  1. Read leads from CRM (HTTP Request or CRM node), collecting each lead's website.
  2. Wappalyzer Tech Lookup: URLs / Domains set from the leads' websites.
  3. Filter: flag leads running a specific CMS or analytics tool, then update the CRM record.

3. Let an AI Agent check a website's tech stack

  1. AI Agent node.
  2. Attach Wappalyzer Tech Lookup as a tool.
  3. Ask "What CMS does example.com use?" The agent calls the node (in Simplified mode) and returns the detected technologies.

Pricing

This node calls the Wappalyzer Technology Lookup Actor on Apify, which is billed pay-per-event: $0.0005 per technology row detected ($0.50 per 1,000 rows). No subscription. Apify also includes a free monthly usage tier that covers typical volumes. See the Actor page for current rates.
