Evidence → Create Evidence

Summary

Creates an evidence record for a case file and evidence group, including its title, original filename, SHA-256 hash, and custody type. For internal custody, an optional public HTTPS file URL triggers a download and upload to the returned upload URL; without it, the result supports a manual presigned-URL upload flow.

Inputs

  • Case File ID (required) — UUID of the case file.
  • Evidence Group ID (required) — UUID of the evidence group.
  • ID — Optional UUID v4 identifier; leave empty to have the node generate one.
  • Title (required) — Human-readable title for the evidence.
  • File Name (required) — Original file name, including extension.
  • Hash (required) — SHA-256 hex digest of the file content (64 hexadecimal characters).
  • Custody Type (required) — Choose Internal (the platform stores and custodies the file) or External (the file remains outside the platform and only its hash is attested). Defaults to Internal.
  • File URL — Optional public HTTPS URL to download and automatically upload the file; applies to Internal custody. Omit for the manual presigned-URL upload flow.

Output shape

A single evidence record returned by the API, with upload information when applicable.

With Internal custody and File URL provided, the node downloads the file and uploads it using the returned upload URL. Without File URL, the response can be used for the manual upload flow. External custody only attests the hash.

Examples

Example 1: Create an internal evidence record and have the node upload the file

Provide the case file and evidence group UUIDs, title, original filename, SHA-256 hash, and a public HTTPS file URL. Keep Custody Type set to Internal.

Example 2: Create an external evidence record

Provide the required identifiers and evidence metadata, set Custody Type to External, and omit File URL. The platform attests the hash while the file remains external.
