Summary

Downloads media from a WhatsApp message using its full WAMessage JSON. In the default Buffer mode, adds the downloaded file as n8n binary data and returns its filename and MIME type in the item JSON.

Inputs

• Message JSON (required) — The full WAMessage object containing the media.
• Output Format — Defaults to Buffer (Binary Data). Stream mode is declared as an option but returns a JSON note that stream mode is unsupported; use buffer mode instead.
• Binary Property Name — The n8n binary property name for the downloaded file; defaults to data. Used in Buffer mode.

Output shape

One item with JSON fields fileName and mimeType, plus binary data under the configured property name in Buffer mode.

The MIME type is inferred from the message media type or document MIME type, with application/octet-stream as fallback. The filename uses the document filename when present, otherwise a generated media-<timestamp>.bin name. Stream mode returns only a JSON note and no binary data.
