AI-generatedSummary
Searches the web with Exa using a required natural-language query, then returns ranked results or synthesized text or structured JSON. Configure the search effort and optional filters or page-content extraction to tailor the results.
Inputs
- Query (required) — Natural-language web search query.
- Search Type — Search effort: Auto (default), Fast, Instant, Deep, Deep Lite, or Deep Reasoning. Deep modes are slower and cost more.
- Number of Results — Maximum ranked results to request, from 1 to 100; defaults to 10, subject to search type and plan limits.
- Output Format — Results Only (default), synthesized Text, or Structured output matching a supplied JSON Schema. Text can include an output description; synthesized formats replace the result list as the returned output.
- Contents — Optional extraction for each result: highlights and excerpt controls, image or page links, live crawl timeout and cache age, targeted subpages, per-result summary, or cleaned page text with HTML, length, and verbosity controls. Leave empty to request links and metadata only.
- Options — Optional search refinements: comma-separated additional queries (used only for deep search types), category, publication date bounds, included or excluded domains and text, unsafe-content moderation, system prompt for synthesized output, and two-letter country code for localization.
- Simplify — Defaults to true. When enabled, returns synthesized output if present, otherwise one item per result. Turn off to return the raw Exa response envelope.
Output shape
With Simplify enabled, returns the synthesized output as one item when requested, or a list of items with one ranked result per item. With Simplify disabled, returns one item containing the raw Exa response envelope.
Search results can include page content according to Contents settings. Synthesized text or structured output is returned instead of raw result items when present. The operation makes a POST request to Exa's search API; it does not modify external data.
