Overview

This node integrates with the Missive API to manage conversations and related entities. Specifically, for the Conversation - Edit operation, it allows you to update properties of an existing conversation. Currently, the only supported edit action is changing the subject of a conversation.

A typical use case is when you want to programmatically rename or update the subject line of a conversation thread in Missive, for example, to reflect a change in topic or to correct a typo. The node also automatically posts a system message to the conversation indicating the subject change, which helps keep all participants informed.

Practical Example

  • You have a workflow that monitors incoming support tickets and wants to standardize conversation subjects based on ticket metadata.
  • When triggered, this node edits the conversation's subject to a new value and posts a notification message about the update.

Properties

Name Meaning
Conversation ID The unique identifier of the conversation you want to edit.
Edit Action The type of edit to perform on the conversation. Currently supports:
- Edit Conversation subject
New Subject The new subject text to set for the conversation (required if editing the subject).

Output

The node outputs the JSON response from the Missive API after performing the edit operation. This typically includes details of the post created to notify about the subject change, such as:

  • posts: An array containing the newly created post object with fields like conversation, conversation_subject, text, and notification.
  • Confirmation that the subject was updated and a notification post was successfully created.

No binary data output is produced by this operation.

Dependencies

  • Requires an active connection to the Missive API using an API token credential.
  • The node makes HTTP requests to the Missive public API endpoint (https://public.missiveapp.com/v1).
  • Proper API credentials must be configured in n8n for authentication.

Troubleshooting

  • Error: Unsupported edit action
This error occurs if you select an edit action other than "Edit Conversation subject". Currently, only editing the subject is supported. To fix, ensure the "Edit Action" property is set to "Edit Conversation subject".

  • Invalid Conversation ID
If the provided conversation ID does not exist or is incorrect, the API will return an error. Verify the conversation ID is valid and accessible with your API credentials.

  • API Authentication Errors
Ensure your API token credential is correctly configured and has sufficient permissions to edit conversations.

  • Network or Request Failures
Check network connectivity and API availability. The node throws errors if the request fails unless "Continue On Fail" is enabled.
