Message → Send Message
AI-generatedSummary
Send a Roam message to a group, an existing chat, or a user DM. Choose plain text or Markdown, or build a Block Kit message with simple fields or a JSON block array; the operation returns the API response as n8n items.
Inputs
- Destination (required) — Choose Group (default), Chat, or User (DM). For groups, select a group name or provide its ID. For chats, provide the existing chat UUID. For DMs, select a user or provide their ID.
- Message Formatting (required) — Choose Plain or Markdown and enter the required Text/Markdown body; or choose Block Kit (Simple) and enter a required body with optional header, context, up to two URL buttons, and body format; or choose Block Kit (JSON) and provide a JSON array of blocks.
- Color — For either Block Kit format, optionally choose Danger, Good, Warning, or a custom #RRGGBB color.
- Bot Name — Name shown for the sender; defaults to n8n.
- Sender Image URL — Optional per-message avatar URL. With API version 2026-08-25, use a Roam-hosted avatar URL created with asset.create for purpose "avatar"; leave blank to use the app profile image.
- Additional Fields — Optionally set a Thread Timestamp to reply in a thread, a Thread Key to create or reuse a thread in a group chat, or a Reply Timestamp for a reply in a DM or in-thread.
Output shape
One or more n8n items containing the Roam API response for each input item.
The request is sent synchronously. Custom colors must match #RRGGBB. In Block Kit (Simple), each configured button requires both a label and URL; invalid JSON or a non-array Blocks JSON value raises an operation error.
