Summary

Sends a document (e.g. PDF) plus a text prompt to a Gemini model on Google Vertex AI and returns the model's answer. The document comes from an input item's binary property or a Google Cloud Storage URI.

Inputs

  • Model (required) — Gemini model, chosen from a list (default gemini-2.5-flash) or entered by ID.
  • Input Type — Binary File (default) or Google Cloud Storage URI.
  • Input Binary Field — Binary property holding the file (default 'data'). Used when Input Type is Binary File. The file is read and sent inline as base64.
  • GCS URI — gs://bucket/path/file.ext. Used when Input Type is Google Cloud Storage URI.
  • MIME Type — Optional for binary input (overrides the detected type); required for a GCS URI, otherwise the node errors.
  • Prompt (required) — The question or instruction about the document (e.g. summarize, extract fields).
  • Options — JSON Output (requests application/json responses), Max Output Tokens (default 1024), Simplify Output (default true), System Instruction, Temperature (0.7), Top K (40), Top P (0.95).

Output shape

One item per input item. With Simplify Output on (default), the JSON is {text}, the concatenated text of the first candidate. With it off, the full Vertex AI generateContent response is returned.

Each result is paired to its input item. With Continue On Fail enabled, a failed item returns {error: message}. API errors (401/403/404/429) get hint messages. With JSON Output on, the text is a JSON string that is not parsed. Max Output Tokens defaults to 1024, which may truncate long answers.

Example 1: Summarize a PDF received from an earlier node

Example 2: Extract invoice fields as JSON from a file in Cloud Storage

Input Type: Google Cloud Storage URI, GCS URI: gs://my-bucket/invoice.pdf, MIME Type: application/pdf, Prompt: 'Extract vendor, date, total', Options: JSON Output on.
