Summary

Finds files in the vault whose content references a target file, optionally limiting the search to matching directories. Returns each matching source file with the matched pattern, line number, and surrounding context.

Inputs

• Target Path (required) — Path relative to the vault root, or just a filename, for the file to find references to.
• Directory Filter — Glob pattern to restrict the search to matching top-level directories; leave empty to search all.

Output shape

A list of items, one per source file with a match.

Each item includes source_directory, source_key, matched_pattern, line, and context. A source file is returned once even if multiple supported patterns match. The search scans file bodies case-insensitively, excluding the target file by path or filename; it returns no items if the vault directory does not exist.

Examples

Example 1: Find references to conventions/n8n-error-format.md across all vault directories.

Set Target Path to conventions/n8n-error-format.md and leave Directory Filter empty.
