Summary

Create a new category or category group in the Lunch Money finance app, specifying details such as name, description, and financial flags.

Inputs

• Name (required) — Name of the category (1–100 characters)
• Description — Description of the category (max 200 characters)
• Is Income — Set to true if transactions in this category are income
• Exclude From Budget — Set to true to exclude transactions in this category from budgets
• Exclude From Totals — Set to true to exclude transactions in this category from totals
• Is Group — Set to true to create this as a category group rather than a regular category
• Group ID — ID of the category group this category belongs to, if any
• Archived — Set to true to mark the category as archived
• Order — Numeric display order of the category; null or zero sorts alphabetically
• Collapsed — Set to true to have the category appear collapsed in the GUI
• Children — JSON array of child category IDs if the category is a group

Output shape

a single record representing the newly created category or category group

The API response includes all category fields. Optional inputs default to false/null if omitted. Errors returned by the Lunch Money API will be passed through by the node.

Examples

Example 1: Create a simple expense category named 'Groceries'

Provide 'Groceries' as the Name and leave other fields as default.

Example 2: Create a category group named 'Income Sources'

Set 'Name' to 'Income Sources' and 'Is Group' to true.
