Summary

Sends a text iMessage to an existing chat through the Photon server, with optional effect, subject, inline reply and send method. Refuses to send unless the contact has previously messaged you.

Inputs

  • Chat GUID (required) — Target chat identifier, e.g. iMessage;-;+1234567890 for a DM or iMessage;+;chat123456 for a group. Find it with List Chats or Create Chat.
  • Message Text (required) — Text body of the message.
  • Additional Fields > Effect — Bubble effect (Gentle, Invisible Ink, Loud, Slam) or screen effect (Balloons, Confetti, Echo, Fireworks, Hearts, Lasers, Shooting Star, Sparkles, Spotlight). None sends no effect.
  • Additional Fields > Reply to Message GUID — GUID of a message to reply to as an inline thread.
  • Additional Fields > Subject — Subject line shown as a bold header.
  • Additional Fields > Send Method — Private API (default) or AppleScript fallback.

Output shape

One output item per input item, containing the message object returned by the Photon server's /api/v1/message/text endpoint (the response's data field, or the whole response if there is no data field).

Before sending, the node queries the chat's last 25 messages. If none is inbound, it throws an inbound-first policy error. It also throws if the query API fails for every GUID variant. If the send fails with a 'chat does not exist' error, the node creates the chat from the address in the GUID, using the message as the initial message, and retries. With Continue On Fail enabled, failed items return {error: message}.

Examples

Example 1: Auto-reply to a contact who just messaged you

Chat GUID = expression from the trigger's chat GUID, Message Text = 'Thanks, we got your request!', no additional fields.

Example 2: Send a celebratory message as a threaded reply

Chat GUID = iMessage;-;+15551234567, Message Text = 'Congrats!', Effect = Confetti, Reply to Message GUID = the original message GUID.
