Summary

Update a file's metadata by specifying its File ID and the fields to change, such as renaming the file or moving it to a different folder (including moving it to the root by specifying 'null' as Folder ID).

Inputs

• File ID (required) — The unique identifier of the file to update.
• Update Fields — Fields to update for the file, including 'Folder ID' to move the file (use 'null' to move to root) and 'Name' to rename the file.
• Options — Optional settings including 'Split Lists Into Items' to output one item per record for list operations and 'Ignore SSL Issues' to bypass SSL certificate validation.

Output shape

a single record representing the updated file's data

The output JSON contains the updated file object. If 'Split Lists Into Items' is enabled and the response contains lists, the node outputs one n8n item per record. Errors are returned per item when 'Continue On Fail' is enabled.

Examples

Example 1: Update file name and move to a folder

File ID set to the target file's ID; Update Fields includes a new folder ID and a new name for the file.

Example 2: Move file to root folder

File ID specified; Update Fields sets Folder ID to 'null' to move the file to the root directory.
