Summary

Open a Slack channel or direct message, optionally resuming a conversation by channel ID or creating multi-person direct messages by specifying users.

Inputs

• Channel ID — Provide the ID of an existing im or mpim channel to resume the conversation.
• User Names or IDs — Specify one or multiple Slack user IDs or names to create a 1:1 or multi-person direct message channel. Users can be selected from a list or supplied via expression.
• Return IM — Set to true to receive the full instant message channel definition in the response.

Output shape

a single JSON object representing the opened or resumed Slack channel (IM, MPIM, or other)

The output contains the channel information as returned by Slack's API. If multiple users are specified, channel ordering is preserved as per Slack's multi-person direct message behavior.

Examples

Example 1: Open a direct message with a single user

Specify the user ID in 'User Names or IDs', leave Channel ID empty, and optionally set 'Return IM' to true to receive full IM details.

Example 2: Resume an existing conversation

Provide the 'Channel ID' of the im or mpim channel to resume, leaving 'User Names or IDs' empty.
