Duplicates a single n8n workflow by fetching it through the n8n API and creating a new, inactive copy, with optional tag copying and credential-reference stripping.
Inputs
Workflow Selection — How to pick the source workflow: searchable list (default), multiple from list, current workflow, or by URL/ID.
Workflow Name or ID (required) — Source workflow when selection mode is 'list'.
Workflow Names or IDs (required) — Used when mode is 'multiple'. Only the first resolved ID is duplicated; the rest are ignored.
Workflow URL or IDs — Used when mode is 'manual'. Accepts a workflow URL, an ID, or comma-separated IDs (URLs are parsed to IDs). Only the first ID is duplicated.
New Workflow Name — Name for the copy. If left empty, the name is ' (Copy)'.
Copy Tags — Default true. When on, the copy gets the source's tags; when off, it has no tags.
Clone Credential References — Default true. When on, node credential references are kept in the copy; when off, the credentials field is removed from every node.
Output shape
One item with sourceWorkflowId and workflow, the created workflow object returned by the n8n API (including its new ID and name).
The copy is always created inactive (active: false). The source's id, createdAt, updatedAt and versionId are dropped before creation. The new workflow is remembered in the node's static data. Requires an n8nApi credential. API failures throw an error, or become an error item if Continue On Fail is enabled.
Examples
Example 1: Make a staging copy of a production workflow without credentials
Select the workflow from the list, set New Workflow Name to 'CRM Sync (staging)', Copy Tags on, Clone Credential References off.
Example 2: Quick backup copy with default naming
Select the workflow via 'By URL or ID', leave New Workflow Name empty, keep both toggles on. The result is named ' (Copy)'.
