Summary

Creates a new Microsoft 365 or Security group within a specified tenant using the CIPP API.

Inputs

• tenantFilter (required) — The tenant to perform the operation on. Select from a list of available tenants or specify by domain (e.g., contoso.onmicrosoft.com).
• groupName (required) — The display name of the group to create.
• groupType (required) — The type of group to create. Options include Distribution, Dynamic, Dynamic Distribution, Mail-Enabled Security, Microsoft 365, and Security.
• normalizeNumbers — Whether to convert string values that contain numbers (e.g., '4') to actual numbers. Useful when the API returns inconsistent types. Default is false.

Output shape

No body — success/failure only.

The operation is a write action. It returns success or failure information based on the API response. The specific Group ID of the newly created group is not returned in the output body, only the execution status.

Example 1: Create a Microsoft 365 group named 'Marketing Team' in the 'Contoso' tenant.

Tenant: Contoso; Group Name: Marketing Team; Group Type: Microsoft 365; Normalize Numbers: false

Example 2: Create a Security group named 'Restricted Access' in a tenant specified by its domain.

Tenant: From List (select specific tenant) or Domain; Group Name: Restricted Access; Group Type: Security; Normalize Numbers: false

Example 3: Create a Distribution group named 'Alert Recipients' with numeric normalization enabled.
