Summary

Update an existing Zoho Cliq Department by specifying its unique department ID and modifying one or more of its fields such as name, lead ZUID, parent department ID, and user IDs.

Inputs

• departmentId (required) — The unique ID of the department to update, which can be selected from a list or entered manually.
• inputMode (required) — Choose between providing update data using structured fields or raw JSON input.
• prefillDepartmentName — (Structured mode only) Option to auto-fill the department name with its current value.
• name — (Structured mode only, when 'Prefill Department Name' is disabled) The new department name; blank values are disallowed here.
• updateFields — (Structured mode only) Optional fields to update including Lead ZUID, Parent Department ID, and User IDs (comma-separated).
• departmentUpdates (required) — (Raw JSON mode only) JSON object or string containing fields to update: name, lead_zuid, user_ids, parent_department_id. Omitting name auto-fills it from the current department info.
• simplify — Whether to simplify the response by reducing its size and unwrapping the department record.
• simplifyMode — When simplifying, choose the output format: Simplified, Raw, or Selected Fields.
• simplifyFields — When using Selected Fields mode, specify which department fields to include in output (ID is always included).
• enableAiErrorMode — Optionally enable AI Error Mode to return errors as output items without stopping execution, useful for AI tool integrations.

Output shape

a single department record object reflecting the updated department.

The output follows the simplify options: raw data by default, or a simplified/unwrapped department object if simplification is enabled. Errors can be returned as output items if AI Error Mode is enabled; otherwise, errors stop execution.

Examples

Example 1: Update department using structured fields

Provide the unique Department ID, enable or disable auto-prefill for the department name, enter a new name if prefilling is disabled, and optionally update lead ZUID, parent department ID, or user IDs.

Example 2: Update department using raw JSON

Provide the Department ID and specify the departmentUpdates JSON payload with any fields to update; the current name is filled automatically if omitted.
