Flexible Asset → Update
AI-generatedSummary
Updates an existing IT Glue flexible asset by ID, sending its field values (traits) in a PATCH request to flexible_assets/{id} and returning the updated asset.
Inputs
- Flexible Asset ID (required) — ID of the flexible asset to update. The node throws an error if it is empty.
- Flexible Asset Type (required) — Type of the asset, chosen from a list loaded from IT Glue. The UI marks it required, but the source only sends it as 'flexible-asset-type-id' if a value is set.
- Traits — JSON object of the form { "trait": [ { "name": "field-name-key", "value": ... } ] }. The source reads the trait list and sends it to IT Glue as a name-to-value map, and entries without a name or with an undefined value are skipped. Default is an empty trait list. The 'name' must be the field's name-key.
Output shape
One item per input item, containing the updated flexible asset. Attribute keys are converted from kebab-case to camelCase, and the item also has id, type and, if present, relationships.
The traits object is always sent, so an empty or missing trait list sends empty traits. An API error (401, 403, 429 or other) raises a node error; 429 responses are retried up to 3 times first. If IT Glue returns no data, the node errors. With Continue On Fail enabled, the item outputs { error: message } instead.
Examples
Example 1: Change the values of selected fields on a known asset, such as a server's location or notes.
Set Flexible Asset ID to the asset's ID, pick the Flexible Asset Type, and set Traits to {"trait":[{"name":"notes","value":"Rebuilt 2026"}]}.
Example 2: Update an asset ID passed from a previous node, such as a search result.
Set Flexible Asset ID to the expression {{$json.id}}, choose the type, and map the new values into Traits.
