Password → Update
AI-generatedSummary
Updates an existing IT Glue password record by ID via a PATCH request, sending only the fields you fill in, and returns the updated record with secrets redacted.
Inputs
- passwordId (required) — ID of the password to update. The operation errors if it is empty.
- name (required) — Password name. Marked required in the UI and sent when non-empty.
- username — Username associated with the password. Empty values are not sent.
- password — New password value (masked input). Empty values are skipped, so leaving it blank keeps the existing password.
- url — URL associated with the password.
- notes — Notes about the password.
- passwordCategoryId — Password category, chosen from a list loaded from IT Glue password categories.
- passwordFolderId — IT Glue password folder ID.
- restricted — Whether the password is restricted to certain users. The boolean is always sent, including when false.
- otpSecret — OTP/TOTP secret (masked input). Empty values are skipped.
- otpEnabled — Whether one-time-password is enabled. The boolean is always sent, including when false.
- resourceUrl — URL of the IT Glue resource this password is associated with.
Output shape
A single item containing the updated password record, flattened into camelCase attributes plus id, type and any relationships. Secret fields such as password and otpSecret are replaced with REDACTED, and a _passwordRedactedReason field is added.
Update never returns plaintext secrets; reveal is only available on Get and Get Version. Because restricted and otpEnabled are booleans that always get sent, an update can reset them to false if you don't set them. Throws an error if passwordId is empty or IT Glue returns no data. Requests retry on HTTP 429 up to 3 times.
Examples
Example 1: Rotate a password after generating a new one upstream
Password ID = {{$json.id}}, Name = existing name, Password = {{$json.newPassword}}. Leave the other fields blank.
Example 2: Enable OTP on an existing credential
Password ID set, Name set, OTP Secret = the TOTP secret, OTP Enabled = true.
